Saudi embassy warns its citizens against property fraud in Turkey

The Saudi Embassy in Ankara warned Saudi real estate investors in Turkey against possible fraud, London-based Arabic daily Asharq Al-Awsat said.

The embassy urged investors to study the relevant Turkish laws and regulations before making an investment and warned of marketing ploys that could leave them victim to fraud, the newspaper said.

The head of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry last year warned Saudi investors not to invest in Turkey, saying that the body knew of several instances where Saudi owners of properties had been deprived of their deeds and Turkish authorities had not resolved the cases.

Relations between Turkey and Saudi Arabia have soured over the Turkish government’s support for Qatar is its rift with its Gulf neighbours, and the murder of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the kingdom’s Istanbul consulate in 2018.
